Meet Josie: North America's Newest Ski-In, Ski-out Hotel to Open in Rossland, B.C. Early 2018

ROSSLAND, B.C. (December 20, 2017) – The Josie Hotel (The Josie), a Noble House Hotels & Resorts property in partnership with William Cole Companies, is set to welcome guests early 2018 [SP1] as Rossland, British Columbia’s first boutique hotel destination. As a true ski-in, ski-out hotel, The Josie will provide the convenience of luxury accommodation mere strides from the slopes of Red Mountain. The architecturally modern, yet playful hotel is situated at the base of RED Mountain Resort along the region’s world-renowned Powder Highway.

The hotel’s 106 stylishly-appointed guest rooms, studio suites and one-bedroom suites offer luxurious bedding, spacious bathrooms and relaxing lounge areas, all with stunning vistas of Red Mountain Resort and the surrounding Rossland range.

While The Josie is contemporary in its design, amenities and culinary philosophy, its concept takes cues from Rossland’s hospitable spirit and unique history. As a nod to Rossland’s more than four decade-long legacy in the gold mining industry, The Josie is named after one of Red Mountain’s most notable mine, the Josie Mine, which operated from 1890 to 1929.

“Whether they’re seeking adventure or relaxation, people visit Rossland to escape life’s ordinary pace and surroundings. The region is a relatively undiscovered gem, and The Josie Hotel feels privileged to be a part of its growth as a unique Canadian destination,” said Mark Bell, General Manager of The Josie Hotel. “The Josie was built to offer the region’s first high-end, boutique hotel experience, while capturing Rossland’s distinct personality – warm, spirited, hospitable and adventurous.”

The Josie Hotel’s full-service dining establishment, The Velvet Restaurant & Lounge (The Velvet), represents the first culinary-offering of its kind in the West Kootenay Region. With a focus on casual, yet contemporary dining and innovative use of locally-sourced, seasonally-shifting ingredients, The Velvet has garnered a dedicated community of local suppliers, including farmers, producers and vineyards. The Velvet’s guests will experience subtle French influence and playful plating, as well as a diverse offering of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Welcoming both hotel guests and local patrons, The Velvet, is designed to accommodate – and encourage – both indoor and outdoor dining.

“The opening of The Josie and The Velvet represents an exciting addition to Rossland’s culinary scene,” said Executive Chef Marc-Andre Choquette, who spearheads The Velvet’s culinary direction. “The Velvet’s kitchen philosophy is about celebrating what’s available to us here in the region, and showcasing it through a dining experience that’s high-quality, yet approachable and fun.”

Beyond neighbouring one of Western Canada’s largest ski and snowboard resorts and the world’s largest cat skiing operation, The Josie will offer its guests unprecedented access to snowshoeing, curling, ice skating and ice hockey during the winter season in the West Kootenay region. With a hyper-local approach to hospitality, The Josie is equipped with a ski concierge service dedicated to guiding guests on their adventures with top tips and intel.

Over the summer months, outdoor enthusiasts can experience the region’s scenic hiking trails, fly fishing and lake fishing, horseback riding and mountain biking on more than 200 kilometres of professionally maintained trails – built upon old railway beds and miners’ trails – before retreating to the comforts of The Josie.

For guests seeking a relaxing escape or post-adventure pampering, The Josie offers a luxury pool and spa with a carefully curated menu of treatments and services, overlooking Red Mountain Resort. Rounding out The Josie’s wellness offering is its premier fitness facility, expertly designed to accommodate cardio, strength-training and low-impact fitness activities like yoga and Pilates.

The Josie encompasses more than 1,500 square feet of unique venue space designed to accommodate corporate and social events with ease. From small meetings and large conferences, to family reunions, holiday parties and private gatherings. As its crowning venue feature, the hotel includes an adjoining terrace for events to take place right in the great outdoors of Rossland. The Josie is also positioned to become a sought-after venue for B.C. mountain weddings year-round, offering an exclusive venue to accommodate small elopements and large bashes alike.
